This is another one that I’ve had lots of questions about – in fact, it seems to be the best remembered limited edition palette of all.
It’s funny that the date appears on the front of the box – I don’t think I have another CHANEL product dated in this way. The box has a Nordstrom sticker on it so I can only assume I bought it in New York but I don’t remember doing so. This is one of the items that Stylist Magazine borrowed for a shoot of classic beauty products from the past. It’s also triggered another thought – when Millie Kendall and Anna-Marie Solowij founded Beauty Mart in 2012, they also borrowed this, amongst other things, as a display at their pop up in Harvey Nichols. So many people tried to buy the items that they had to put them away!
So this particular palette has had many adventures! Obviously, it was designed to replicate denim and given a properly CHANEL twist with gold ‘stitching’. I guess the predominant feature, after the colour, is the texture. The box has a denim print around the sides.
In 2011, as a special edition for Fashion’s Night Out, Peter Philips, CHANEL creative director at the time, created a trio of blue nail polishes as another Jeans de CHANEL limited edition with shades called Blue Rebel, Blue Boy and Coco Blue. I’ve had a quick scoot on eBay – this palette can command £150 although the original cost was $50.
