Make Your Own Tinted Moisturiser

[unpaid/purchase/sample/affiliate/ad] With a move away from fuller foundations, you don’t need to invest in a new tinted moisturiser when you probably have exactly the right components to make your own tinted moisturiser. I’ve been making Lucy tinted bases for years – she has highly reactive skin so has to be so careful with what she uses, and she is pale as snow!

This is just our working pot – I haven’t fancied it up at all. I’ve used Avene Hydrance Aqua Gel which is a product that she can use without getting any reaction. I’ve mixed it with EX1 Liquid Invisiwear Foundation in 1.0 which is the lightest shade available.

EX1 Liquid Invisiwear Foundation

Water gels seem to be particularly good for mixing – they’ve (obviously) got a high water content so aren’t too oily but at the same time, seem able to absorb in the pigment of the foundation. I’ve used roughly two dessert spoons of moisturiser to two pumps of foundation and that’s enough to give a light layer of moisture + pigment but obviously, it’s not an exact science and you’ll need to experiment with quantities to find what suits you best. Ideally, start with a pump of foundation and add in the moisturiser in small quantities (don’t forget to make a note of your ‘recipe’) and mix really, really well by stirring. There’s not enough of concentrated foundation to cause a reaction on Lucy’s skin but enough to give a dewy, tone-evening finish that lasts surprisingly well. Lucy applies with a brush which I think is a more economical way to apply but you do need to blend meticulously. It’s simple enough to make your own tinted moisturiser with whatever you have to hand – high silicone content with high silicone content can cause pilling (anything on the INCI with ‘cone’ at the end of it) but other than that, there’s nothing to stop you.
