Malin + Goetz Tomato Candle

[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] Since I panicked at the beginning of lock down about not being able to get any tomato plants, I got hold of as many as I could ‘just in case’ and pretty much have a tomato factory out on the patio now. As a learner gardener, walking past my thriving tomato plants and taking in the leafy, fruity aroma, is a huge thrill. Any minute now I will be buying a trug ;-).

Malin + Goetz Tomato Candle

This fragrance is an interpretation by Andrew and Matthew of tomatoes ripening in the warmth of the sun. When I was a child, I loved the smell of tomatoes but didn’t like the taste and I distinctly remember being in my dad’s greenhouse surrounded by that hot, sultry, stalky smell and wishing I could like them. I love them now but still would be pushed to eat one whole. Anyway, the tomato note lives in the middle layer of the candle – up top are a clump of herb notes which is the thing that dilutes the tomato so you don’t feel you’re having a whole one, if you see what I mean. Basil, ivy, lavender and mint leaves work so well to freshen up the intensity of pure tomato.

I had this on the burn last night – it’s quite a light scent – and every now and again a light breeze caught it (okay, a draught) and I’d get leafy tomato notes coming to the surface and drifting over. Otherwise, it’s a botanical, fresh, fancy salad of a fragrance that I’m really enjoying. It’s limited edition but frankly, watch it go to the main line almost immediately.
